234 Yale University Obituary Record Gordon Bostwick Maurer, Ph.B. 1920. Born May 30, 1899, tn Rochester, N.Y. Died November 12, 1938, tn Margaretvtlle, N.Y. Father, Wdham Rochester Maurer, a civil engmeer; mstructor Mechanics Institute of Rochester for eighteen years; assistant engmeer of tests New York, New Haven & Hartford Radroad Company, New Haven, son of Jacob G and Helen (Montgomery) Maurer of Rochester. Mother, Katherine (Bostwick) Maurer, daughter of Charles Elisha and Jane (Banford) Bostwick of Rochester New Haven High School Combined premechcal course, honors for excellence m all studies and honorable mention for excellence m biology Freshman year, general two-year honors Jumor year; pnvate Company F, Premedical Corps, Yale S A T C , October 3-December 14,1918 M D cum laude Yale Umversity 1923 (honorable mention Campbell Gold Medal, member Alpha Kappa Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha), assistant m pathology and bactenology Yale School of Medicme 1923-24, interne m surgery New Haven Hospital 1924-25, engaged m practice of medicme Margaretville smce 1925 with the exception of several months in 1934-35 which he devoted to study and observation m department of surgery at Yale, during this time perfected an instrument for doing intestinal anastomoses which obviated the necessity of an assistant, was supermtendent of Margaretvdle Hospital which was budt by a community dnve for funds after his care for patients m his own house demonstrated the need for such an institution, had contributed two papers to American Journal of Surgery; member Delaware County Medical Society (president 1928-30), American Medical Association, American Legion, and Margaretville Rod and Gun Club Marned January 17, 1929, at Lake Delaware, N Y., Florence Gale, daughter of Thomas Russell and Jessie Brown (Dykes) Knight Daughter, Pnscilla. Death due to a gunshot wound received m a huntmg accident Buried m Margaretville Cemetery Survived by wife, daughter, mother, and a sister, Carol Woodruff Maurer Hess (Smitjj.
