Father, Basd Davenport, millowner and flour and gram merchant m Jacksonville, 111 , son of Ira Davenport of Jacksonville. Mother, Mary Elizabeth (Metcalf) Davenport Yale relatives mclude a nephew, Wdham Burke Belknap, '08. BA Illinois College 1885, attended Yale Graduate School 1887-89 (MA 1890), supermtendent of schools Jacksonville 1889-92, professor of English Manual Training High School, Louisville, 1892-1900, headmaster Patterson-Davenport School for Boys, Louisville, 1900-09^ and of Country Day School, Louisville, 1910-17; registrar Umversity of Louisville 1917-28, mstructor m history 1917-26, and associate professor of education 1926-28, retired in 1928; resided m Louisville and had mam- tamed a summer home at Pemaquid Pomt, Me, for many years; governor Yale Alumm Association of Kentucky 1922-23, member Arts Club, Louisville, Enghsh Speaking Umon, and Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal), Louisville Marned June 24, 1902, m Louisville, Emdy Andrews, daughter of Charles Gurdon and Emdy (Andrews) Davison Chddren Basd, '26, and John Andrews, '32 Death due to coronary thrombosis. Ashes mterred m Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Survived by wife, sons, and one grandson Kozo Samuru Chiba, M.A. 1895. Died in December, 1938. Attended Yale Graduate School 1893-95 (MA 1895), lecturer on political and social sciences at Tokyo School of Politics; author The Political Philosophy of J H Green, and of numerous articles on politics, sociology, and ethical subjects; translated mto Japanese* Sorley's Recent Tendencies tn Ethics, and Ibsen's The Master Builder, Hedda Gabler, and When We Dead Awaken 240
