Mother, Elizabeth Robmson (Lmton) Corbm; daughter of David and Ann (Thomas) Lmton of Wilmington, Ohio. Yale relatives mclude. Arthur L Corbm, Jr., '23, Herbert H Corbm, '26, and David L. Corbm, '32 (nephews) Lawrence High School and Hillhouse High School, New Haven; B A. Umversity of Kansas 1893 (member Phi Beta Kappa); graduate student in German Yale Umversity 1896-1900 (Ph D. 1901), studied m Germany 1900-01 and 1910, teacher Lawrence High School 1893-96 and Hillhouse High School 1897-1900, member faculty Umversity of Kansas 1901 until retirement 1937 because of ill-health (assistant professor of German 1901-11, associate professor 1911-18, and professor 1918-37, adviser of women 1918-21); author. Bom October 31,1874, in Newark, Ohio Died February 1,1941, in Edgewater, NJ Father, Hiram B Swartz (B A. and LL.B. Umv of Michigan 1872), a lawyer in Wooster, Ohio, mayor of Wooster, prosecuting attorney, and probatejudge; son of Samuel and Mary (Miller) Swartz of Milton Township, Ohio. Mother, Martha Jane (Davies) Swartz (B Litt Demson Umv 1869); daughter of David A. and Ann (Reese) Davies of Granville, Ohio Wooster High School; attended Demson Umversity 1894-96,1900-01 (BXitt. 1901), College of Wooster 1898-99, Mechanics Institute, Rochester, NY, 1901-02 (diploma 1902), and Teachers College, Columbia Umversity, 1905-06 (B S and diploma m education 1906), student physiological chemistry Yale Graduate School 1907-09 (Ph D 1909, traveling fellow Columbia Umversity, member Sigma Xi); taught school m Wooster from about 1899 to 1901, teacher of home economics Fond du Lac (Wis) High School 1902-05, assistant m domestic science Teachers College, Columbia Umversity, 1906-07,
