164 Yak University Obituary Record Gawthrop of Chester County, Pa Mother, Sarah Coates (Ridgway) Gawthrop, daughter of Joseph and Esther (Coates) Ridgway of Philadelphia Mr Gawthrop was a direct descendant of Wilham the First and Charlemagne on both his father's and mother's side. Martin Academy, Marlboro, Pa , Durnall's Academy, Unionville, Pa , and Shorthdge Academy, Kennett Square. Civd engmeermg course. Assistant engmeer m department of city engmeer New Haven, Conn , 1872-76; manufacturer of chemical fertilizers, Kennett Square, 1876 until retirement 1939 (member J. Gawthrop & Company 1876-88, sole owner of the busmess 1888-1910; president Joseph R. Gawthrop & Son Company, Inc, 1910-15), councilman borough of Kennett Square 1888-91, member Baronial Order of Runnymede (genealogist for twenty-one years) and Society of Fnends, attended Presbytenan church. Marned (1) February 20, 1879, m New Haven, Hattte Minerva, daughter of George Wilham and Mary Elizabeth (Howland) Mason. Chddren Ridgway Mason, Elsie Love, the wife of George Bady Scarlett, Lillian Maud, the wife of Evans Rogers Jackson; and Rosalie Hannah (Mrs George Sharp Pennock, died January 28, 1941) Mrs. Gawthrop died December 21, 1932 Marned (2) June 9, 1937, in Elkton, Md , Ida LeDuc DeVoist, daughter of Antome and Ida (Korten) LeDuc. Death due to cerebral thrombosis. Buried m Umon Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square Survived by wife, two daughters, son, five grandchddren, and three great-grandchddren Since February 25, 1939, Mr Gawthrop had enjoyed the distinction of being the oldest hvmg graduate of the Sheffield Scientific School.
