Bom January 1, 1879, in Montreal, Province of Quebec. Died October 4, 1941, in Toronto, Province of Ontario Father, Charles Edward Goad, a civd engmeer, founder Charles E. Goad Company, insurance, London, England, and Montreal and Toronto, son of Charles Goad of London Mother, Margaret (Brown) Goad of Owen Sound, Ontano Bishop Strachan School, Toronto, B A Trinity College, Umversity of Toronto, 1899 an(l M A 1904, studied at Konighche Fnednch- Wilhehns Umversitat, Berlin, 1903-04, instructor in German Wilson College 1904-11 (dean of the faculty of the classical department 1909- 11); student m department of Enghsh Yale Graduate School 1911-16 (Ph D 1916), mstructor in Enghsh Wells College 1916-17 and associate professor 1918-21, engaged in volunteer welfare work m Toronto, bemg associated with Protestant Chddren's Homes and Canadian National Councd of the Y W C. A , worked at Mary Ward Settlement, London, 1927-28, resided in England, Italy, and Switzerland, and on the French Riviera for many years, member Umversity of Toronto Senate 1928-32, president St. Hdda's College Alumnae Association 1931-32, author Horace in the English Literature of the Eighteenth Century (1918). Death due to a stroke. Ashes interred m Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto Survived by a sister, Mrs Charles Waddell Lilhe of Mdton, Mass, a brother, two half sisters, and a half brother, James Lawrence Goad of Toronto David Brown, Ph.D. 1933. Bom September 24,1904, in Glasgow, Scotland Died September 29, 1941, in Kingston, Pa. Father, Wilham Brown, associated with G C Moore Scouring Company, North Chelmsford, Mass., son of David and Margaret (Campbell) Brown of Glasgow Mother, Jean Arnott (Vernon) Brown, daughter of Peter and Agnes (McCubbin) Vernon of Glasgow. Chelmsford High School; B A Williams College 1925, attended Harvard Graduate School 1925-26 (MA 1926) and Yale Graduate School 1929-31 (Ph D. 1933; awarded Albert Stanburrough Cook Prize m 1931 for his poem Trotlus), instructor in English Williams College 1926-29 and Yale University 1931-32; assistant professor of Enghsh
