88 Yale University Obituary Record Ernest Hamilton Hurd, B.A. 1904. Born January 20, 1878, tn Bridgeport, Conn. Died January 25, 1943, in Elizabeth, NJ. Father, Edwm D Hurd of Wdton, Conn , retired mihtary officer Mother, Sarah (Beers) Hurd Norwalk (Conn ) Umversity School Attended Yale School of Law 1904-05. With Prudential Insurance Company m New York City and Pittsfield, Mass., 1905-06, control bookkeeper St Regis Hotel, New York City, 1906-07; teacher of languages m pnvate schools 1906-09; instructor m Latin and German Elizabeth Semor High School 1909-10, taught modern languages Newark (N.J.) high schools 1912-15 and St John's College, Brooklyn, NY., 1916; control bookkeeper dunng construction of Fox Hills (NY) Mihtary Hospital dunng World War I, studied music at Yale 1903-04 and with pnvate teachers; gave piano instruction and was m charge of music m several churches in New York City, Newark, and Ehzabeth; composer of several pieces, including "Hymn to Ehzabeth" (on the occasion of the town's 250th anniversary), "Prayer for Peace," "Amenca, My Country," and a number of hymns; member New Jersey Federation of Music Clubs and First Presbytenan Church, Ehzabeth. Marned January 1, 1910, m Spnngfield, Pa, Lora Adell Turner (Pd M Edinboro [Pa ] State Teachers Coll 1894, B A. Oberhn 1904), daughter of Winfield Scott and Helen Elizabeth (Welch) Turner. No chddren. Death due to cerebral hemorrhage Buned m East Spnngfield (Pa.) Cemetery Survived by wife and a brother, Clmton H Hurd of Chester, Vt. Charles William Lawrance, B.A. 1904. Bom June 11, 1880, in Indianapolis, Ind. — Died June 22, 1943, tn Kensington, Md.
