34 Yah University Obituary Record George Edwin Eliot, B.A. 1886. Born June i, 1864, tn Clinton, Conn. Died November 11, 1943, in Madison, Conn. Father, George Edwin Eliot of Clinton, member State legislature 1853; son of Ely Augustus and Susan Maria (Pratt) Ehot of Clinton. Mother, Chloe Cornelia (Redfield) Ehot, daughter of David Redfield of Killing- worth, Conn Yale relatives include* Jared Ehot (B A. 1706) (great-great- great-grandfather), and John L. Eliot, '94 S (cousin). Morgan School, Clinton Third English composition prize first term and second prize second term Sophomore year; philosophical oration appointment Junior year, high oration appointment and special honors in English Senior year; Class tennis club Sophomore year; librarian Bethany Sunday School Junior year; on board Yale Record and coeditor Yale Pot-Poum Senior year; Commencement speaker; member Psi Upsilon, Scroll and Key, and Phi Beta Kappa. Graduate member Elizabethan Club. Attended Yale Graduate School 1886-88 (M.A. 1888) Instructor in English Morgan School 1888-99, principal 1899-1931, and principal emeritus 1931-43, author* Three Corners of London (containing "Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese," 1928), introduction and notes for Dryden's Palamon and Arcite (1898), and Genealogy of the Descendants of John Ehot (1901), on committee in charge of Class fund 1929-36 and on Class reunion committee 1931; president Clinton Choral Club 1925-43; member Clinton Historical Society, New England Association of Colleges and Preparatory Schools, and First Church of Christ (Congregational), Clinton (Sunday School superintendent, choir director, and deacon). Unmarried Death due to coronary accident Buned in Indian River Cemetery, Clinton Survived by no immediate relatives. Mr Ehot bequeathed a sum to be added to the Jared Ehot Fund in the University Library This fund, established by bequest of his ancestor, Jared Ehot, in 1763 and added to by bequest of Thomas Ruggles (B.A. 1723) in 1770, was the first permanent endowment of the Library. Father, Charles Augustus Otis, president Otis Steel Company and Cleveland Commercial National Bank; mayor of Cleveland 1872; son of William Augustus and Eliza (Proctor) Otis of Cleveland. Mother, Ann Eliza (Shepard) Otis; daughter of David Lindsay and Mary Eliza (Smith) Shepard
