Yale College 151 Research Laboratory, Auburn, 1915-44; discovered several new photoelectric substances and developed infra-red telegraphy and telephony which led to sound on film; held patents on thalofide cell (1919), barium hydrogen photo-electric cell (1921), aeo light (1930, 1936), phono-film apparatus (1926,1927,1928, 1929,1930,1931); author of many papers on the results of his research; during World War I engaged in Government work on Special Board on Anti-Submarine Devices, and at Naval Experiment Station, New London, Conn, (in collaboration with Dr. R W Wood developed infra-red signaling system, providing ships with secret communication); was commended by Secretary of the Navy, M S. George Washington University 1918; associated with Fox-Case Movietone Corporation 1926-29; engaged in production of cells for talking movies until 1934; president Pan American Trade- Committee, New York City, 1939- 41; trustee Seymour Library, Auburn, 1919-39 (vice-president 1926-38 and member Library Association 1917-44) and Cayuga Museum of History and Art 1936-44; member New York Electrical Society, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, Electro Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Optical Society of America, Royal Society of Arts (London), and St Peter's Church (Episcopal), Auburn Married November 26, 1918, in Auburn, Alice Gertrude, daughter of George Field and Agnes Louise (Parsons) Eldred Children* Theodore Willard, Jr, '42, Barbara Eldred (Vassar Coll. ^-'44), the wife of William Thorn Kissel, Jr. (Harvard 6x-'44), Jane Frances Fitch, and John Pettibone (Class of 1947). Death due to lobar pneumonia. Buried in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn. Survived by wife, children, a grandson, mother, and a sister, Dorothy C. Whitehouse, the wife of William Penn Whitehouse (B.A. Harvard 1917, LL.B. 1921) of New York City Peter Henderson, B.A. 1912. Born May 2, 1887, in Jersey City, N J Died January 14, 1944, in Greenwich, Conn. Father, Alfred Henderson, president Peter Henderson & Company, seed growers and distributors, New York City; son of Peter and Emily (Gibbons) Henderson of Jersey City. Mother, Mary Belle (Davis) Henderson; daughter of Joseph and Martha (Watson) Davis of Richmond, Va Collegiate and Groff schools, New York City, and St. Paul's School, Concord, NH.
