Yale College 183 in dropping parachute troopers Pope Field February, 1944, transferred to Baer Field, flew to England as chief pilot of a troop carrier plane March, 1944; assigned to Troop Carrier Squadron, Troop Carrier Group. Lieutenant Woods was killed in an airplane crash in Membury, England. Buried in American Military Cemetery, Brookwood, England. Survived by parents and two brothers, Lieut. Dick H. Woods, U S M.C. (B A. Univ. Illinois 1935; LL.B. Yale 1938), and Sergeant Robert J. Woods, '42, A.US. George Eustis Cookman, B.A. 1938. Bom March 22,1916, in Englewood, N J. Died August 3-4, 1943, in the South Pacific Father, Arthur Shirley Cookman (B.A Haverford Coll 1902), president A. S. Cookman & Company, importers and exporters, New York City; son of John Emory and Margaret (Howland) Cookman of New York City. Mother, Martha (Stephenson) Cookman; daughter of Walter Briant and Martha (Eustis) Stephenson of Philadelphia Yale relatives include a cousin, Henry H. Silhman, '29 Englewood High School and Phillips-Exeter On football, squash, and lacrosse teams Freshman year; University Squash Team three years (captain Senior year), 150-pound football team Junior and Senior years, member Ehhu and Berkeley College (football team Sophomore year). With L Bamberger and Company, department store, Newark, N.J, 1938-39; associated with Federal Advertising Agency, New York City, 1939-40; member St Paul's Church (Episcopal), Englewood Married May 31,1941, in Englewood, Elizabeth Ann, daughter of Allen Ledyard Lindley (Lehigh Umv ex- 02) and Elizabeth (Ellsworth) Lind- ley, and sister of Daniel A. Lindley, '26, and Allen L. Lindley, Jr , '32. Son* Allen Eustis Enlisted US. Naval Reserve September, 1940, commissioned Ensign February 28, 1941, after completing midshipman training aboard the U.SS. Prairie State, stationed at Newport, RI, summer 1941, overseas with Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron December, 1941—July, 1942; promoted Lieutenant (j g ) June 1, 1942, and Lieutenant December 1, 1942; executive officer Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron , on duty in the South Pacific, October, 1942—August, 1943. Lieutenant Cookman was killed during a naval engagement Posthumously awarded Silver Star and citation Survived by wife (Mrs. William Goadby Post), son, parents, and three brothers, Briant S Cookman, '29, John E Cookman, '31, and Arthur S Cookman, Jr , '33
