Called to active duty February 26, 1942; sent to Field Artillery Replacement Center, Fort Bragg, March-April, 1942; took Officers Specialist Course, Fort Sill, April-July, 1942; assistant executive Headquarters Battery, 358th Field Artillery Battalion, 95th Infantry Division, Camp Swift, July-December, 1942; attended Battery Officers Course, Fort Sill, December, 1942—March, 1943; assistant reconnaissance officer (later reconnaissance officer) Battery , Field Artillery Battalion, Infantry Division, Fort Sam Houston, March-June, 1943, received further training at Camp Reynolds June 14-October 2, 1943, and overseas, stationed in England November, 1943—June, 1944. Lieutenant Freedman was killed in action in France At the time of his death he was a reconnaissance officer attached to a howitzer battery Buried in La Cambe, Normandy. Posthumously awarded the Order of the Purple Heart August 18, 1944. Survived by parents and a brother, Robert J Freedman, '41. William John Loveday, B.A. 1939.
