Walter Perry, Jr., '36, U S M C R , a half sister, Grace Perry Davidson (B.A Wellesley Coll. 1913), the wife of Robert J. Davidson, Jr., '14, and a half brother, Rogers Perry, ^#-'23 Worthington Webster Phillips, Class of 1943. Born June 21,1921, in Ann Arbor, Mich Died March 27, 1944, in England Father, Ulnch Bonnell Phillips, Litt D (B A Univ. Georgia 1897, M A. 1899, PhD Columbia Univ. 1902; M.A. Hon. Yale 1929), professor of American history at Yale University 1929-34; associate fellow Jonathan Edwards College 1933-34, son of Alonzo Rabun and Jessie Elizabeth (Young) Phillips of La Grange, Ga. Mother, Lucie (Mayo-Smith) Phillips (B A. Barnard Coll 1906), daughter of Richmond Mayo-Smith (B.A. Amherst Coll. 1875, Ph D 1890) and Mabel Percy (Ford) Mayo-Smith of New York City Hopkins Grammar School, New Haven, Conn Entered Yale September, 1939, on championship Freshman Fencing Team; member Jonathan Edwards College and Episcopal church. Volunteered and accepted as aviation cadet by Army Air Forces January, 1942, withdrew from college to enter active service at Santa Ana Army Air Base August, 1942; preliminary flight training Thunderbird Field January-March, 1943, basic flight training Army Air Field, Pecos, Texas, March-May, 1943, and advanced training Army Air Field, Marfa, May- July, 1943, received wings and commissioned Second Lieutenant July 28, 1943; received further training as pilot of a Liberator bomber at Roswell, N.Mex , August-November, Clovis November-December, and Alamo- gordo December, 1943—February, 1944; sent overseas March 1, 1944. Lieutenant Phillips was killed in action in England Posthumously awarded the Order of the Purple Heart April 25,1944. Survived by mother, a sister, Mabel Elizabeth Phillips (Vassar Coll. ^-'39) of New Haven, and a brother, Ulric B Phillips, '34, '37 L.
