204 Yale University Obituary Record Walter Roy Manny, Jr., Class of 1944. Born February 3, 1921, in Paris, France. Died October 18, 1943, at Bogue Field, N.C. Father, W Roy Manny, '11 S (ME Cornell Univ. 1913), president Atlantic Zinc Works, Inc., Brooklyn; son of Walter Bishop and Ella (Tatum) Manny of St Louis Mother, Lorraine (Craven) Manny; daughter of James Braddock and May (Field) Craven of Larchmont, N.Y. Yale relatives include. Edward H. Tatum, '00 (great-uncle), and Ralph P. Manny, '19 S. (uncle) St. Paul's School, Concord, N H, and Taft School for Boys, Water- town, Conn. Entered Yale September, 1940. Freshman Hockey and Rowing squads; University Hockey Team Sophomore year; member Berkeley College, Fence Club, and St. John's Church (Episcopal), Larchmont. Withdrew from college July, 1942; aviation cadet preliminary flight training University of North Carolina July-October, 1942; transferred to Naval Aviation Base, Grosse Isle, Mich., October, 1942—February, 1943, received advanced training at Naval Air Training Center, Pensacola, March-June, 1943; commissioned Second Lieutenant, U S Marine Corps Reserve, June 30,1943; special training in dive bombing at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, July-September, 1943, and Bogue Field September- October, 1943. Married September 25, 1943, in Greenwich, Conn, Constance Lorenza Lazo (B A Bryn Mawr Coll. 1943), daughter of Antonio Lazo. Lieutenant Manny was killed in the collision of two planes while in formation Buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, N Y. Survived by wife, parents, four sisters, Mrs. John Evan Rees, Mrs. Blanchard Randall, 3d, Miss May Field Manny and Miss Virginia Manny, a brother, James Craven Manny, and maternal grandmother.
