Married April 15, 1903, in Water Valley, Miss, Kahsta, daughter of Daniel R and Mary Gertrude (Young) Wagner. Daughter: Kahsta Wagner. Death due to leukemia. Buried in Davidson College Cemetery. Survived by wife, daughter, and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Lee Hood Harrison of Germantown, Tenn Edwin Clarence Norton, M.A. 1900. Born July 5, 1856, in Bradford, Pa. Died October 6, 1943, in Claremont, Calif. Father, Rev. William Wallace Norton, a frontier minister; chaplain during Civil War, son of Ira Norton. Mother, Frances Beach (McCoy) Norton. Preparatory and college work Carleton College 1873-77; attended Amherst College 1877-79 (B.A. 1879; member Delta Upsilon and Phi Beta Kappa; M A. Hon. 1883), Johns Hopkins University 1880-81, Yale Graduate School 1881-82 (M.A 1900), and Yale Divinity School 1882-83, studied at University of Oxford 1904 and Columbia University 1914; principal public schools Alexandria and Waseca, Minn., 1880-81; professor of Greek Yankton College 1883—87; ordained in Yankton Congregational Church May 1,1884, a founder Pomona College 1888 and on faculty 1888- 1943 (principal preparatory school 1888-90, professor of Greek language and literature 1890-1926, professor emeritus 1926-43; dean of the faculty 1890-1923, dean emeritus 1923-43; registrar and acting president ad interim), PhD. Hon Carleton College 1896; DD. Pacific School of Religion 1910; president and moderator Southern California Congregational Conference 1911-12; member Claremont Congregational Church. Married June 26, 1884, in New Haven, Conn, Frances Lee Rice (Mount Holyoke Coll. 1874-75), daughter of Joel Tuttle and Mary Jane (Rowe) Rice Children* Katharine Rice (B.A. Pomona Coll. 1909), the wife of Alan Benner (B A. Pomona Coll 1909; M.D Cornell Univ. 1916), Philip (died April 19, 1892), Dorothy (died July 6, 1894), Theodore Edwin (Pomona Coll. ^-'24; died September 8, 1922). Death due to chronic myocarditis. Ashes interred in Oak Grove Cemetery, Claremont Survived by wife, one daughter, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
