Survived by wife, daughter, parents, two sisters, Catherine Mims (B.A. Vanderbilt Univ. 1924, M A. 1929) of Staunton, Va., and Ella Puryear Mims (B.A. Vanderbilt Univ. 1934, M.A. 1939) of Nashville, and a brother, Thomas Puryear Mims, A.U.S. (B.A. Vanderbdt Univ. 1926, M.A. 1928), of Nashville. Delos [Allen] Chappell, B.A. 1922. Born August 30, 1895, in Trinidad, Colo. Died May 13, 1945, in Bishop, Calif. Father, Delos Allen Chappell (Univ. Michigan 1867-68), president Nevada-California Electric Corporation of Denver, Colo; son of Allen Darwin and Mary (Delano) Chappell of Rochester, NY., and Kalamazoo, Mich. Mother, May Chase (Hastings) Chappell; daughter of Alonzo and Grace (Weed) Hastings of Trinidad. Thacher School, Ojai, Calif. Attended Princeton University 1913-15 and Leland Stanford University 1915-16 (member Sigma Alpha Epsilon). Enlisted in France as private, Section Sanitaire, 71st American Field Service, August 29, 1917; in action on the Somme, at Verdun, Woevre, Champagne, and St -Mihiel, and in the Argonne; transferred to 5th Balloon Company August, 1918; discharged March 4, 1919. Attended Yale College 1919-20 (scholar of the first rank; high oration appointment; awarded B.A. 1922) and Yale School of Law 1920-21 Studied at Columbia University School of Law 1921-22; mine operator in Arizona about 1924-28; president Delos Chappell, Inc., theatrical producers, New York City, 1932, 1933-34, and 1935-38; produced Camille (1932), Come of Age (1934), Cross-Ruff (1935), Daughters of Atreus (1936) and Father Malachy's Miracle (1937); art broker in New York City 1932-40; in engineering department Interstate Telegraph Company, Bishop, I943-45- Married (1) August 18, 1920, in Denver, Edna, daughter of Harry C, and May (Davison) James. Children: Joan, the wife of John Hopkins Lamont (Harvard 1940-43, MD. 1946), and Pierre (Class of 1948). Mr. and Mrs. Chappell were divorced in 1939. Married (2) November 28, 1942, in Weston, Conn., Janet Kirby Post, daughter of Rolhn and Estelle (Carter) Kirby. Death due to coronary thrombosis. Ashes interred in Grand View Memorial Park, Glendale, Cahf. Survived by wife, chddren, and a sister, Jean C. Cranmer, wife of George Ernest Cranmer (Litt.B. Princeton 1907) of Denver.
