Enlisted as private (1st class), U S Marine Corps, and assigned to 13th Candidates Class, Quantico, September 19-December 2, 1942, 16th Reserve Officers Class December 2, 1942-February 10, 1943, and Artillery Class February 10-May 5, 1943; commissioned Second Lieutenant December 2, 1942; promoted First Lieutenant September 30, 1943, executive officer Battery C, First Company, 14th Marines, Fleet Marine Force, Camp Lejeune, May 5-August 6, 1943, and Camp Pendleton August 6, 1943-January, 1944; went overseas January 12,1944, took part in invasions of the Marianas and Marshall islands; received Presidential Unit Citation, was recommended for the Silver Star, Letter of Commendation, and Legion of Merit for service in campaigns of Saipan and Timan Lieutenant Jones was killed when he lost his footing and fell into a canyon while conducting a class in scouting and patrol. Buried in Maui, T.H. Survived by wife, son, mother, a brother, Lieut Col. Wilbur Stone Jones (B.S United States Military Academy 1931), and maternal grandmother. Forrest Lee Kenner, B.A. 1938.
