Married June 7, 1941, in Greenwich, Conn., Audrey Perot Oakley (Sarah Lawrence Coll. ^#-'42), daughter of Ralph Lawrence and Sarah Lee (Perot) Oakley. Son: George Eddison, Jr. Entered service as Ensign D-V(G), U.S. Naval Reserve, May 1, 1942; called to active duty June 22, 1942; commissioned Lieutenant (] g ) May 1, 1943; Torpedo Officer, Commissary Officer, and Assistant Gunnery Officer on destroyer U.S.S. Lansdale July, 1943-April, 1944 (promoted to Gunnery Officer December, 1943). Lieutenant Haines lost his life when his ship was attacked and sunk off the coast of Algeria. (In compliance with Section 5 of Public Law 490, as amended, the presumptive date of death was fixed as April 21, 1945.) Posthumously awarded the Order of the Purple Heart and the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry on April 20, 1944, when he personally lessened the effectiveness of hostile plane attacks by coordinating action of the guns and directing accurate vigorous fire against enemy aircraft. After the ship was sunk, Lieutenant Haines assisted the men struggling in the water and contributed to the probable saving of several lives Survived by wife, son, parents, a brother, Franklin M.
