Oration appointment Senior year, Freshman Track Team; University Track Squad Sophomore year and Team Junior year; University 150-pound Football Squad Sophomore and Junior years; member Pierson College (nonresident Senior year), Fence Club, Ehhu, and Christ Church (Episcopal), New Haven Married July 26, 1941, in East Hampton, N.Y., Mary Esther Krech (Sarah Lawrence Coll. 1940-41), daughter of Shepard Krech, '13, and Mary Stevens (Chapin) Krech, and sister of Shepard Krech, Jr, '41, and M Chapin Krech, '42 Daughters: Mary Stevens and Barbara Seymour. Enlisted as a private, Army Air Forces, July 3, 1942; reported for active duty at Fort Devens January 15, 1943; aviation cadet Nashville, Tenn; received further training at Keesler Field, Armament School (Buckley Field), Lowry Field, and Salina, Kans.; went overseas in April, 1944; central fire-control gunner on a B-29 Superfortress, 792d Squadron, 468th Bomb Group, 20th Air Force, China-Burma-India Theatre; participated in several bombing missions. Staff Sergeant Jackson lost his life returning from a raid over Mukden, Manchuria Survived by wife, daughters, parents, three sisters, Rose J. Sheppard (Vassar Coll. ^-'38), the wife of John W Sheppard, '32, Katharine Jackson (diploma Sarah Lawrence Coll 1939) of New Haven, and Harriet J Ely (diploma Sarah Lawrence Coll. 1939), the wife of John I Ely, '35, four brothers, Richard S. Jackson, '34, John H. Jackson, '34, Henry W. Jackson, cat-'36, and Lionel S. Jackson, ex-yy, and maternal grandmother James Stewart McDermott, B.A. 1942. Born February 15, 1921, in Tope\a, Kans. Died March 2, 1945, on Iwo Jima. Father, George Thomas McDermott (Ph B. Univ. Chicago 1908, J.D. 1910), judge 10th Judicial Circuit, US. Circuit Court, Topeka, son of James and Tirzah (Henderson) McDermott of Winfield, Kans. Mother, Katharine (Stewart) McDermott (Washburn Coll. ex-iy)\ daughter of James Harvey and Kate (Martin) Stewart of Wichita, Kans Topeka High School.
