Yale College 201 Sam Phillips, Jr., B.A. 1942. Born February 8,1921, in Birmingham, Ala. Died January 10, 1945, near Cincinnati, Ohio. Father, Sam Phillips, executive president Burger Phillips, department store, Birmingham, son of Sam and Lena (Burger) Phillips of Birmingham. Mother, Teresa (Aronsohn) Phillips; daughter of Samuel J and Lena (Solowitz) Aronsohn of Paterson, N.J. Ramsay Technical High School, Birmingham. Captain Freshman Golf Team; University Golf Team Junior year; member Saybrook College. Associated with Burger Phillips 1941-42, member First Church of Christ Scientist, Birmingham. Married November 7,1943, at Cimarron Field, Oklahoma City, Patricia Ann Grimes, daughter of Margaret Grimes Aronsohn. Daughter: Kathleen. Enlisted as cadet, Army Air Forces, April 4, 1942, called to active duty August 5, 1942; stationed at Cimarron Field, Oklahoma City, transferred to Field Artillery April 1, 1943, attended Officer Candidate School, Fort Sill; commissioned Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery, July 10, 1943; assigned as liaison pilot, 13th Airborne Division, 677th Glider Field Artillery Battalion, Camp Mackall, May, 1944-January, 1945; promoted First Lieutenant December 5, 1944. Lieutenant Phillips was killed when the transport plane in which he was returning to his base crashed near Cincinnati. Survived by wife, daughter, parents, and a sister, Miss Lynn Helen Phillips of Birmingham William Barton Simmons, Jr., B.A. 1942. Born May 15, 1920, tn Jamaica, N Y.
