Married May 26,1943, in Riverside, Cahf, Dorothy Louise Davis (B.A. East Carolina Teachers Coll. 1941), daughter of Aaron Heide and Medola Elcort (Shepard) Davis Daughter Bilhe Louise (born June 18, 1945). Inducted into Army of the United States April 9, 1942; a musician in Special Service Fort Dix, May-June, Fort Du Pont, June-July, and Fort Miles, July-December; transferred to Coast Artillery; attended Officer Candidate School, Camp Davis, December, 1942-March, 1943; commissioned Second Lieutenant March 4,1943, promoted First Lieutenant February 16, 1945; assigned to 797th Coast Artdlery Battalion (anti-aircraft) as artillery officer S-3 and platoon leader; stationed at Camp Haan April, 1943-March, 1944, anc- June-October, 1944; on maneuvers at Camp Ervm summer 1943; at Camp Cook March-June, 1944; transferred to Infantry, and received training at Fort Benning October-December and Camp Croft December, 1944-February, 1945; sent overseas from Fort George G. Meade February, 1945, arriving in France March 6; assigned to Company E, 317th Infantry, 80th Division, Third Army. Lieutenant Simmons was instantly killed by small-arms fire while leading his men in an attack on enemy positions. Buried in U.S. Military Cemetery No. 1, Stromberg, Germany. Survived by wife, daughter, parents, and a brother, Robert Kendnck Simmons, A.U.S. Robert Emmett Stevenson, B.A. 1942. Born March 21, 1921, in Woodcliff, N.J. Died July 7, 1944, on Satpan, in the Marianas Islands. Mother, Augusta Dolores (Ehser) Stevenson; daughter of August Frederick and Magdalene (Stocker) Ehser' Allendale School, Rochester, and Phillips-Exeter. Freshman Boxing Team, winner boxing tournament 1939; member Branford College (football team three years) and Chi Psi. Member St. John's Church (Roman Catholic), Rochester. Unmarried.
