Died May 18, 1945, on Okinawa, Ryu^yu Islands. Father, Harry Llewellyn Evans (Harvard ex-'io) of San Rafael, Cahf ; president Pacific Marine Insurance Agency, Inc, San Francisco; son of Evan Cyfeihog and Anne Ralston (Harney) Evans of San Rafael. Mother, Margaret (Minton) Evans; daughter of Rev. Henry Colhn Minton, D.D , LL.D. (B A. Washington and Jefferson Coll. 1879, M A. 1882; grad. Western Theological Seminary 1882), and Clare Louise (Smith) Minton of Trenton, N.J., and San Rafael. Tamalpais School, San Rafael, and Lawrenceville (N.J.) School. Captain Freshman Crew; University Crew three years; member Berkeley College (crew Junior year), Delta Kappa Epsilon, Scroll and Key, and St. Paul's Church (Episcopal), San Rafael; awarded B.A. December 19, 1942, as of the Class of 1943. Married May 22, 1943, in Piedmont, Calif., Henrietta Doan Tinning (Univ. California 1941-42), daughter of Archibald Bruce Tinning (B.S Univ. California 1912; Harvard Law School 1913-14) and Henrietta (Erwin) Tinning. Daughter: Margaret Tinning. In U.S. Marine Corps Reserve when at Yale; entered active duty as private (1st class) December 27, 1942; attended Officer Candidate School, Quantico, December, 1942-March, 1943; commissioned Second Lieutenant March 10,1943; promoted First Lieutenant July 1,1944; ordered to Reserve Officers Class, Quantico, March-May, 1943; taught officer candidates at Jacksonville, N.C, May, 1943-August, 1944; assigned to 29th Marine Regiment, 6th Division, and subsequently to H Company, 3d Battalion; went overseas August, 1944; stationed in Solomon Islands untd March 15,1945, when the division left for Okinawa; served as rifle platoon leader. Lieutenant Evans died of wounds received in enemy action on Okinawa Buried in 6th Marine Division Cemetery, Okinawa Survived by wife, daughter, parents, two sisters, the Misses Margaret and Gertrude Evans of San Rafael, and two brothers, David Evans and Minton Bradford Evans, U.S.N.R (B.A. Umv California 1944), of San Rafael.
