Born December 23, 1920, in Brussels, Belgium Died December 21, 1944, in Belgium. Father, Mac Martin (B.A Umv Minnesota 1903), president Minneapolis branch Erwin, Wasey & Company, national advertising agency, son of James M. and Frances Margaret (Bell) Martin of Minneapolis. Mother, Helen (Cobb) Martin; daughter of Albert Clifford and Annie Storer (Litdefield) Cobb of Minneapolis. Yale relatives include a cousin, John C Cobb, 3d, '41. Blake School for Boys, Minneapolis. Oration appointment Senior year; Freshman Football, Baseball, and Hockey teams (captain baseball team); University Baseball Squad Sophomore year; University Football Squad Sophomore and Junior years, University Hockey Team Junior year; member Yale Political Union, R O.T.C at Yale (battery commander Senior year), Pierson College, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Scroll and Key, and Torch Honor Society; awarded B.A. December 19, 1942, as of the Class of 1943. Unmarried. Member Hennepen Avenue Methodist Church, Minneapolis. Attended Officer Candidate School, Fort Sill, January-April, 1943; commissioned Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery, April 8, 1943, assigned to Field Artillery Headquarters, 106th Division, and stationed at Fort Jackson as assistant operations officer in May, 1943; promoted First Lieutenant January 14, 1944; on detached service dunng August, 1944, to attend Orientation Officers School, Washington and Lee University (graduated August 30, 1944); commander Battery C, 590th Battalion, for about two months, reassigned to Headquarters and sent to France about November 10,1944. Lieutenant Martin was killed by enemy rifle fire when the Headquarters Battery was attacked on the road in Belgium Buried in Henri Chapelle, Belgium. Posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
