Mother, Katharine (Degnan) Miller (B.A Trinity Coll. 1910; M.A Brown Univ. 1911; MD Cornell 1915); daughter of Francis and Mary (Roark) Degnan of Rye, N.Y. The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn Member Class golf team Freshman year and University Golf Team Sophomore and Junior years; member Jonathan Edwards College (golf, hockey, and squash teams Sophomore and Junior years) and Beta Theta Pi, awarded B.A. December 19, 1942, as of Class of 1943. Member Christ Church (Episcopal), Greenwich Unmarried Entered service as private January 10,1943; after a short period at Camp Devens was assigned to Army Air Forces Technical Training Command, Basic Training Center No 9, Miami Beach, Fla.; sent to Armorers' School, Buckley Field, Denver, March 30, 1943, and assigned to 768th Technical School Squadron (specialist), promoted private (1st class) February, 1943, sent to Lowry Field, Denver, about June, 1943; assigned to 468th Squadron Bombing Group, 20th Air Force, Smoky Hills, Sahna, Kans ; promoted Corporal about August, 1943; sent overseas in April, 1944; assigned central fire control gunner on a B-29, stationed in Kharagpur, India, with engagements in the China-Burma-India Theatre of action; participated in first B-29 raid over Japan; promoted to Staff Sergeant about May, 1944, awarded Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Sergeant Miller was killed when his plane developed engine trouble and crashed while on a bombing raid to Singapore. Survived by parents, a sister, Dorothy Miller Davol (Sarah Lawrence Coll 1938), the wife of Rector T Davol, '37 (MD. Columbia 1941), and paternal grandmother. William Cutler Thompson, Jr., B.A. 1943. Born August 2, 1921, in Wibaux, Mont. Died May 25,1945, in Erfurt, Germany. Father, Lieut Comdr William Cuder Thompson, USN.R. (B.S. Pennsylvania State Coll. 1919; LL B. Temple Univ. 1927), in Judge Advocate General's Division, U.S Navy; formerly professor of law Temple University, son of E Franklin Thompson (LLB. 1887) and Florence (Poulson) Thompson of Chicago Mother, Grace (Winter) Thompson (B A. Pennsylvania State Coll. 1920), daughter of William Phdhps Winter (Ph D. Johns Hopkins Umv 1905) and Elizabeth (James) Winter of State College, Pa Yale relatives include an uncle, Frederic S. Thompson, <?,*■-'16 S Cheltenham High School, Philadelphia.
