236 Yale Untverstty Obituary Record received pilot's wings and commissioned Ensign May 12, 1944; at advanced Fighter Training School, Melbourne, Fla, May-September, 1944, when sent overseas; attached to U S.S. Cowpens as fighter pilot. Ensign Whitehouse was killed when his plane was shot down on a combat mission over Legaspi, Philippine Islands. Survived by parents, a sister, Miss Sylvia Mary Whitehouse, and a brother, Lieut. Charles S. White- house, U S M C R. (Class of 1947), all of New York City and Newport. Thomas Chapman Aldrich, Class of 1945W. Born October 14, 1923, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Died December 15,1944, on Leyte, Philippine Islands. Father, C Morgan Aldnch, '16, retired broker; formerly manager Hartford (Conn ) branch Goodbody & Company; son of Charles Spiegle and Annie E (Morgan) Aldrich. Mother, Pnscilla (Chapman) Aldnch. Kingswood School, West Hartford, and St. Paul's School, Concord, N H Entered Yale in July, 1942, member Trinity Church (Episcopal), Hartford Unmarried. Withdrew from college September 26, 1942; enlisted in Army of the United States November 25, 1942; stationed with Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, Kearns, Utah; ordered to Lawson General Hospital as laboratory technician and later transferred to Army Specialized Traming Program engineering course, Wayne University; transferred to Infantry when school closed six months later; stationed at Camp Medford and other camps in California; went overseas in July, 1944, and went in on first wave at Leyte October 24,1944; promoted private (1st class). Pfc Aldrich was instandy killed by enemy machine gun fire. Survived by parents and a brother, C. Morgan Aldrich, Jr., ex- 43. Townsend Doyle, Class of 1945W. Born August 24, 1923, in Brookline, Mass. Died September 16, 1944, off Martha's Vineyard, Mass. Father, Lieut Comdr Jesse Irwin Doyle, U.SN.R (Massachusetts Inst Technology ^-'20), formerly associated with Hayden, Stone Company, Boston Mother, Elizabeth (Boyd) Doyle. Middlesex School, Concord, Mass. Entered Yale in July, 1942; member Pierson College and St. Mary's Church (Episcopal), Newton Lower Falls, Mass. Unmarried. Enlisted U S Naval Reserve, Class V-i, December 15, 1942; withdrew from college February, 1943; entered U.S. Naval Reserve as naval avia-
