Brownell (B A. 1850) Mother, Abigail Foote (Loomis) Brownell Williston Academy, Easthampton, Mass Civil engineering course; premium for excellence in physics Freshman year, consolidated Freshman Crew; Class crew Junior and Senior years, bow oar University Crew Junior and Senior years; Class treasurer Junior year; member The Cloister and Book and Snake. Teacher in grammar school Moodus, Conn, 1875-77; associated with Brownell & Company, cotton manufacturing, Moodus, 1877-80; invented a twisting machine and numerous later improvements, sold in many parts of the world, founder and sole owner G L. Brownell, builders of Brownell twisting and cable-laying machines, Worcester, 1881 until January, 1930, when business was incorporated as G L. Brownell, Inc., and president of the latter firm 1930-44; member Worcester Chamber of Commerce, Worcester Economic Club, Worcester Civic Music Association, Associated Industries of Massachusetts (charter member 1918), New England Council, Five Cents Savings Bank Corporation, and Central Congregational Church, Worcester (on building committee, clerk, and chairman of assessors). Married September 8, 1881, in East Haddam, Elizabeth Marsh Everett Reed, daughter of Joel Sumner Everett (B A. Amherst Coll. 1840, M A 1843; grad. Andover Theological Seminary 1844) and Seraphina (Haynes) Everett. Sons: Leroy (died October 21, 1901) and Carl Reed, 'io S Mrs. Brownell died January 24,1929 Death due to bronchopneumonia. Ashes interred in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Survived by son, a grandson, George L. Brownell, 2d, '40 E., and a great-granddaughter. Judson Amos Doolittle, Ph.B. 1877. Born January iyy 1853, in Cheshire, Conn Died March 26, 1945, in Mount Vernon, N Y Father, Alexander Doolittle, a farmer and manufacturer in Cheshire, assessor and first selectman of Cheshire, son of Amos and Eliza (Beach) Doolittle of Cheshire. Mother, Mary Ann (Andrews) Doolittle, daughter of Silas and Ruth (Yale) Andrews of Walhngford, Conn Yale relatives include* Jotham I. Doohtde (B.A 1795)(great-great-uncle); and Edgar B Doolittle, SpecS. 1878-79 (brother).
