Alcalda (SP 630), New London, Conn., April, 1917-March 1, 1918, transferred to Aviation Section May, 1918; attended Ground School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, May-June, 1918; flying instructor, Naval Training Station, Key West, Fla ; commissioned Ensign, U.S Naval Reserve Flying Corps, August 1, 1918; released to inactive duty January 14, 1919, associated with Baker Brothers, Inc., 1919- 40 (treasurer 1919-26, vice-president 1926-33, president 1934-39); recalled to active duty as Lieutenant, U S Naval Reserve, March 15, 1940; stationed in office of Inspector of Naval Materiel, Cleveland, 1940-43; promoted Lieutenant Commander September 15, 1941; in charge local procurement for repairs and alterations, Brooklyn Navy Yard, 1943-45; secretary Northwestern Ohio Yale Alumni Association 1923-24, secretary- treasurer 1925-26, and secretary 1926-27; member First Congregational Church, Toledo. Married (1) September 17, 1919, in Toledo, Jeannette, daughter of Albert Gallatin and Belle (Granger) Wright. Children: Martha Jane (B.A. Smith Coll. 1943), the wife of Charles L. Willoughby, '43 S., and William, Jr Mr and Mrs Baker were divorced in 1934. Married (2) in February, 1939, in Toledo, Barbara, daughter of Donald E and Dorothy (McKisson) Hiett Children: Boake Hiett and Arthur Ernest, 2d. Death due to fracture of vertebra from an accidental fall. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo. Survived by wife, children, mother, two sisters, Martha Baker Hayes, the wife of Commodore Webb Cook Hayes, 2d (grad. US Naval Academy 1911) of Fremont, Ohio, and Frances Baker Williams, the wife of Lloyd Thomas Williams (Ph.B. Ohio State Umv 1896, LL B. 1900) of Toledo, and two brothers, Arthur L Baker, '21 S., and Lieut. Comdr. Gerald V. C. Baker, '28 S. Tracy Leeds Clarke, Ph.B. 1917. Born Apnl 2, 1894, in Milford, Conn. Died September 8,1944, m Larchmont, N.Y. Father, Wdham Sherman Clarke, postmaster of Milford; son of Elias and Catherine Mary (Clark) Clarke of Milford. Mother, Frances Adelaide (Leeds) Clarke, daughter of John Harris and Frances A. (Hine) Leeds of New Haven, Conn Milford High School. Electrical engineering course; Class baseball team; member Alpha Chi Rho. Enlisted in Signal Reserve Corps June 6, 1917; called to active duty
