Born January 28,1903, in Corinth, Miss. Died September 26, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo. Father, Shelby Hammond Curlee, founder Curlee Clothing Company, manufacturers of men's clothing, St Louis, and chairman of the board, son of William Peyton and Mary Elizabeth (Boone) Curlee of Corinth Mother, Luella (Duncan) Curlee; daughter of Thomas Dudley and Juliet (Elgin) Duncan of Corinth. Smith and Jackson academies, St Louis, and Philhps-Andover. General science course; Freshman Track Squad; member York Hall and Chi Phi. Attended Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration 1926- 28 (M.BA. 1928); associated with Curlee Clothing Company 1928-29 and 1931-44 (vice-president 1931-36, president 1936-44); vice-president Mayfield (Ky ) Woolen Mills 1929-31; enlisted as Lieutenant A-V(S), U.S. Naval Reserve, and entered training at Quonset Point, RI, June 17, 1942; attended Air Combat Intelligence School, Quonset Point, August 20-October 14,1942; on active service at Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Va . October 27, 1942-November, 1943, as Air Combat Intelligence Officer of Fleet Air Wing; transferred to Boca Chica Naval Air Station, Florida, November, 1943; released from active duty May 20, 1944. Married July 24, 1929, in San Francisco, Elise May Durbrow (B.A. Connecticut Coll. for Women 1926; M A. George Washington Umv 1929), daughter of Chandler W. Durbrow, '02 L , and Lizzie May (Ware) Durbrow and sister of Elbndge Durbrow, '26 Sons* Shelby Hammond, 4th, William Peyton, and Chandler Durbrow. Death due to asphyxiation by accidental drowning. Buried in Corinth Cemetery. Survived by wife and sons.
