300 Yale University Obituary Record John Vandal Frankenthal, B.S. 1926. Born April 23, 1903, in Chicago, III. Died December 1, 1944, in Van Nuys, Calif. Father, Lester Emanuel Frankenthal (M D. Northwestern Univ. 1889), attending gynecologist and obstetrician Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, and clinical professor of gynecology Northwestern University; son of Emanuel and Kate (Friedman) Frankenthal of Chicago. Mother, Anna Eleanor (Nourse) Frankenthal, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Jane (Ham) Nourse of Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Tome School for Boys, Port Deposit, Md., and Mdford (Conn.) School Industrial engineering course. Assistant purchasing engineer and later purchasing agent Lundoff- Bicknell Company, building contractors, Chicago, 1926-35; president Building Construction Company, general contractors, Chicago, 1935-44; secretary and treasurer B. J. Many Company 1941-44; commissioned Lieutenant, U S Naval Reserve, August, 1942; stationed at Camp Bradford, Camp Elliott, and at Port Hueneme, Cahf; commanding officer Company C, 25th Construction Battalion; went overseas February 14, 1943; stationed in New Zealand, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and Guam. Unmarried. Member St Paul's Church (Episcopal), Chicago. Lieutenant Frankenthal lost his life in an airplane crash while on leave from duty in the Southwest Pacific. Ashes interred in Phelps, Wis. Survived by parents and a brother, Lester E. Frankenthal, Jr., '20 S. James Lindsay Luke, B.S. 1926. Born March 30, 1905, in New Yor\ City. Died May 20, 1945, in Bethesda, Md. Father, David Lincoln Luke (B S. Univ. Pennsylvania 1886), a founder and president West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, New York City; son of William and Rose (Lindsay) Luke of Wilmington, Del. Mother, Bessie Carol (Anderson) Luke; daughter of William F. and Mary Ella (Menefee) Anderson of Virginia Yale relatives include* Victor S. Luke, £■^-'22 S., and Adam K Luke, Jr., '30 (cousins); and David L. Luke, 3d (Class of 1947 Nov )(nephew) Hackley School, Tarrytown, N Y., and The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn General science course; Freshman Crew and Swimming Team; University Swimming Team three years; Senior Promenade Committee; member The Cloister and Book and Snake and Aurehan Honor Society.
