Born October 20, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Died November 7, 1944, in Bartlow, England. Father, D Irving Mead, '97, president South Brooklyn Savings Bank; son of George W. Mead (B A 1851) and Sarah Frances (Studwell) Mead Mother, Elizabeth (Young) Mead, daughter of Charles Titus and Jane (Wilhts) Young Yale relatives include two cousins, Theodore S. Smith, '23, and Earl Smith, '25 Taft School for Boys, Watertown, Conn Entered Yale September, 1940; industrial administration course; member Pierson College (hockey and soccer teams) and Presbyterian church. Unmarried. Entered Army Air Corps Reserve while at Yale; withdrew from college February 12, 1943; entered active duty in Army Air Forces; at Geneva College April-June, 1943; received preflight training at Maxwell Field July 5-August 31, 1943, and primary training at Lafayette, La, September 2-October 27, 1943, Walnut Ridge, Ark., November 9, 1943- January 7, 1944, and Spence Field, Moultrie, Ga, January 17-March, 1944 (received pilot's wings and commissioned Second Lieutenant March 12, 1944), advanced training at Dale Mabry Field, Tallahassee, Fla, May i-June 1, 1944, and Hillsborough Field, Tampa, Fla., June-August, 1944, went overseas in August, 1944; assigned to 4th Fighter Group, 336th Squadron, 8th Air Force, flew twenty missions over Europe as pilot of a P-51 Mustang. Lieutenant Mead was killed when his plane crashed during a test flight Buried in Amencan Army Cemetery, Cambridge, England Survived by parents, two sisters, Miss Jane Wilhts Mead and Miss Elizabeth Mead, and a brother, Lieut, (j g ) David I Mead, Jr., USNR., all of Waccabuc and Scarsdale, N Y. Robert Megget Steel Walker, B.S. 1944. Born April 22, 1922, in Providence, R I. Died May 27,1945, on Okinawa, Ryu\yu Islands. Father, Edward Field Walker, secretary-treasurer Rhode Island Textile Association; executive director American Lace Manufacturers Association, Inc ; son of Edward Field Walker (M D Columbia Univ. 1876) and Kathenne Boies (Bigelow) Walker of Providence.
