Air Field, Army Air Base, Pueblo, Colo, and at Topeka, Kans ; went overseas attached to 849th Bombardment Squadron, 490th Bomb Group, in December, 1944. Lieutenant Elder was killed in a mid-air collision during a practice formation mission over Bury St Edmunds Buried in U S Military Cemetery near Cambridge, England Survived by parents, a sister, Margaret Elder Neuhaus, the wife of Joseph Rice Neuhaus, '40, a brother, John William Elder (Class of 1949 March), and paternal grandmother. Albert Crawford Herring, Jr., Class of 1945W. Born December 5, 1923, in New Yor\ City. Died December 22, 1944, in Belgium. Father, Albert Crawford Herring (B A. Columbia Univ. 1914, M D. 1917), attending physician St. Luke's Hospital, New York City. Mother, Teresa Mercedes (Robles) Herring Groton (Mass.) School. Entered Yale in August, 1942; biology course; member Timothy Dwight College Unmarried. Withdrew from college April 30, 1943; entered Army of the United States as private in May, 1943; stationed at Camp Upton May-July, 1943; received basic training Army Air Forces, Greensboro, N.C, July-December 20, 1943; transferred to Army Intelligence School, Camp Ritchie, about December 20, 1943 (promoted staff sergeant June 20, 1944); went overseas June 28, 1944, attached to 17th Airborne Division; sent to a camp in France and during the battle for Bastogne was transferred to 101st Airborne Division; at time of his death was serving in headquarters company in military intelligence section. Sergeant Herring was killed at Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge. Buried in Grand Failly No 1 Cemetery, Belgium. Survived by parents, a sister, Miss Teresa Robles Herring of New York City, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Robles of Barranqudla, Colombia. John Sears Parsons, Class of 1945W.
