Hospital 1906-07; physician in Chicopee, Mass , 1907-27; owned and operated a fruit farm in Amherst 1926-29; on staff Northampton State Hospital about 1929-31; assistant in biology Amherst College 1932-44; commissioned First Lieutenant, Medical Corps, October 22, 1918, stationed at Camp Greenleaf and Camp Crane, discharged December 14, 1918; member Massachusetts Medical Society, American Medical Association, and Unitarian Church, Chicopee. Married June 10, 1906, in Chicopee, Anna Mane, daughter of William and Henrietta (Ruhl) Ludwig. Daughter: Beatrice (B S Massachusetts State Coll. 1931), the wife of William Ernest Batchelder. Mrs. Meyer died July 19,1943. Death due to bronchopneumonia. Ashes interred in Moodus, Conn Survived by daughter, four grandchildren, a sister, Miss Lillian Meyer of Springfield, and four brothers, Arthur Carl Meyer of Hamden, Conn , Albert Gustave Meyer and Leslie Meyer, both of Chicopee, and Herbert Meyer of West Springfield, Mass. Mayo Russell Purple, M.D. 1937. Born April 27,1912, in East Hampton, Conn. Died January 19,1945, in New Haven, Conn. Father, Norman William Purple (B.S. Univ. Connecticut 1908), manager Gong Bell Manufacturing Company, East Hampton; son of Mayo Smith and Gettine Louise (Arnold) Purple of East Hampton. Mother, Annie Kathenne (O'Connell) Purple; daughter of Jeremiah Keating and Katherine Ann (Shea) O'Connell of Moodus, Conn Middletown (Conn.) High School; B.A. Dartmouth College 1933 (member Alpha Chi Sigma and Alpha Tau Omega); attended Yale School of Medicine 1933-37 (M D. 1937); interne University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, 1937-39; assistant resident physician New Haven Hospital and New Haven Dispensary 1939-40 and resident physician 1940-42; assistant in medicine Yale School of Medicine 1939-40 and instructor 1940-42; commissioned Captain, Medical Corps, Army of the United States, August 27, 1942, assigned to Army Air Forces and stationed at Wellston Airport, Ga ; received medical discharge August 5, 1944; member St. Patrick's Church (Roman Catholic), East Hampton. Unmarried. Trapped in a hotel fire Dr. Purple died of suffocation and extensive burns. Buried in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton. Survived by parents.
