362 Yale University Obituary Record Rufus Melvin Overlander, LL.B. 1897. Born August 27, 1872, in Leona, Kans. Died January 21, 1945, in Northndge, Calif. Father, Rufus Baugher Overlander, a farmer and stockman in Leona; son of John and Sarah Ann (Hayes) Overlander of Knox County, 111. Mother, Sinia (Mathewson) Overlander, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (DeVault) Mathewson of Highland, Kans. Hiawatha (Kans.) Academy; attended Gnnnell College a short time in 1897, attended Yale School of Law 1895-97 (LLB. 1897), Yale College 1897-98 (BA 1898; first colloquy appointment), and Yale Graduate School 1898-99, admitted to New York bar 1898; lawyer in New Haven 1899-1904 and New York City 1898-99 and 1904 until retirement because of ill-health in 1937; bank appraiser for State of New York 1907-08; member Legal Advisory Board, New York City, and Selective Service Board in World War I; author of several articles published in legal journals; member Masonic order and Our Lady of the Valley Church (Catholic), Canoga Park, Calif. Married September 6, 1899, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Catherine Hazel, daughter of Francis and Emmehne (Dowd) Kirk. Children: Rufus Melvin, Jr (Lehigh Umv 1922-23); Evarts Webster, ex-26 Art; and Irma Bernadette (Teachers Coll, Columbia Univ., ex-25), the wife of James Curtis Havens (Lehigh Univ. ex-26). Mrs. Overlander died December 2, 1944. Death due to coronary thrombosis. Buried in Parish Cemetery, St Sebastien, Quebec Survived by children, five grandchildren, and three brothers, Dr. Charles L. Overlander, 'oi S., Jesse L. Overlander, £#-'03 S., and Dr J Ehot Overlander, '05 S Eugene Eaton Grimm, LL.B. 1899. Born Apnl 8, 1878, in Fran\hn, Pa. Died July 8, 1944, in Fran\hn, Pa. Father, Daniel Grimm, an oil producer; president Exchange Bank of Franklin; son of Peter and Louise (Kahlor) Grimm of Alsace-Lorraine, Germany. Mother, Carolyn Frednka (Weinman) Grimm; daughter of William and Louise (Zuter) Weinman of Zweibrucken, Germany. National Preparatory Academy, Highland Falls, N Y , and Cheltenham Military Academy, Ogontz, Pa , attended Yale School of Law 1896-99 (LLB 1899; member Wayland and Kent clubs); clerk in a law office in Franklin 1899-1901, admitted to the bar 1901 but never practiced law; engaged in oil production with his father in several counties in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, partner Jenkins & Grimm; president Solidified Glycerine Company, Franklin Quality Refining Company, and
