390 Yale University Obituary Record 21, 1933; called to active duty September 28, 1938; assigned to 200th Coast Artillery (anti-aircraft) as Chaplain (Captain) January 6, 1941; stationed at Fort Bhss, Texas, January-September, 1941, and Fort Stotsen- burg, Philippine Islands, September, 1941-May, 1942; missing in action May 7, 1942, at Bataan. Captain Howden was detained in an enemy prison camp in the Philippines from May to December, 1942, and is presumed to have died of starvation. Survived by wife, children, three sisters, Mrs Herbert L. Horton of Des Moines, Iowa, Miss Esther Howden and Miss Margaret Howden, both of Albuquerque, N Mex., and three brothers, Douglas Faber Howden (B.A. Umv. N.Mex. 1920) of Berwick, Pa., John Faber Howden (B.A Umv. NMex 1926; LL.B. Harvard 1929) of New York City, and William Howden (B.A. Univ. N.Mex. 1932) of Albuquerque. Bernard Chase Kamerman, B.A. 1927. Born May 4, 1906, in Hartford, Conn. Died June 20, 1943, in Washington, D.C. Father, Abraham Kamerman, associated with Big Lion Package Store, retail liquor, Hartford, son of Bernard and Bernice Kamerman of Lem- berg, Poland. Mother, Augusta (Chermak) Kamerman; daughter of Bernard and Liebe (Ahl) Chermak of Lemberg. Yale relatives include: Bernard Kamerman, '21 S, and David Kammerman, '27 (cousins); and Karl P. Josolowitz (Class of 1948)(nephew). Hartford Public High School. Scholar of the second rank Freshman and Sophomore years; high oration appointment Senior year; Freshman Lacrosse Squad; Class crew squad Sophomore and Junior years; member Phi Beta Kappa Attended Yale School of Law 1927-30 (LL.B. 1930; member Order of the Coif; an editor Yale Law Journal). Admitted to the Connecticut bar 1930; research assistant in law Yale University 1930-31; associated with law firm of Solomon Eisner, Hartford, 1930-34, engaged in Washington 1934-43 (attorney housing division, Public Works Administration, 1934-37, assistant solicitor Department of the Interior 1937-40 and chief counsel Division of Territories and Island Possessions 1940-43); member Hartford County Bar Association, State Bar Association of Connecticut, and Temple Beth Israel, Hartford. Married November 5,1936, in New York City, Lisbeth Helen Shulman (B A Smith Coll 1932, M SS 1936), daughter of Max and Bella (Pin- chuk) Shulman.
