Sprole, '42, and two brothers, George O Knapp, 2d, '35, and Allen Knapp (Williams Coll. 1933-34) °f Grand Rapids, Mich. George Noyes McLennan, B.A. 1941. Born January 5, 1919, in La\e Forest, III. Missing in action September 13,1942, on Guadalcanal. Presumptive date of death September 14, 1943. Father, Donald Roderick McLennan, chairman Marsh & McLennan, Inc., insurance, Chicago; son of William Lilhngston and Juha (McLeod) McLennan of Duluth, Minn. Mother, Kathenne Cole (Noyes) McLennan (B A Smith Coll. 1905), daughter of George Henry Noyes, LL.D. (BA Umv Wisconsin 1873, LL.B. 1874), and Agnes Alhs (Haskell) Noyes of Milwaukee, Wis. Yale relatives include* Haskell Noyes, '08 (uncle), George W. Welles, Jr., ex-26, Donald R. Welles, '27, William Dalrymple, Jr, ex-2y, Ralph C. Bagiey, ^-'38, and Haskell Noyes, Jr, '45 (cousins) Los Alamos Ranch School, Otowi, N.Mex., and The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn Freshman Football Squad, Freshman Baseball and Hockey teams; University Hockey Team three years; member Berkeley College (touch football and baseball teams Junior and Senior years; captain touch football team Senior year), Delta Kappa Epsilon, and Book and Snake Member First Presbyterian Church, Lake Forest. Married May 26, 1942, in Hewlett, NY, Margaretta Fitz-Gerald, daughter of George Tybout and Margaretta Fitz-Gerald (Benson) Purves. Enlisted as seaman (2d class), US Naval Reserve, July 18, 1941; stationed at Floyd Bennett Field July-November; appointed aviation cadet November 27, 1941, received primary and basic flight training at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla, and advanced training at Miami, Fla.; selected for Air Corps, U S Marines, March 1, 1942, awarded wings March, 1942, and commissioned Second Lieutenant May 23, 1942; stationed in San Diego, Calif, June, 1942; joined Squadron 3, Group 2, Second Marine Air Wing, in Hawaii in July, 1942, pilot of a Grumman Wildcat plane and stationed at Henderson Field on Guadalcanal; as a
