402 Yale University Obituary Record college February 25, 1943, when called to active duty; stationed at Camp Devens February 26-March 16,1943; received basic training Keesler Field March 16-June, 1943; promoted private (1st class) June, 1943; attended Army Administration School, Huntsville, Texas, June-August, 1943; stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo, August-September, 1943; went overseas in September, 1943; served in North Africa attached to Quartermaster Corps of Army Air Forces, assigned to 12th Air Support Command; sent to Italy in November, 1943. Death due to injuries received in an automobile accident. Survived by parents, a sister, Miss Alice Mary Fitzgerald, a brother, Frederick Lawrence Fitzgerald, all of West Haven, and maternal grandmother. Charles Jared Ingersoll, Jr., Class of 1945W. Born December 27, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa. Died May 14, 1944, in Italy. Father, Charles Jared Ingersoll (C.E. Princeton 1917), civilian chief, U.S. Army Ordnance, Philadelphia district, and a director Pennsylvania Railroad Mother, Marian (Baird) Ingersoll. Chestnut Hill (Pa.) Academy and St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H. Entered Yale in July, 1942. Unmarried. Withdrew from college September 26, 1942; enlisted in Army of the United States as private in October, 1942; assigned to 310th Engineer Battalion, Company B, 85th Division, Camp Shelby, Miss., and desert maneuver area in California for training; promoted Corporal in February, 1943, and Sergeant in September, 1943; sent overseas to North Africa in December, 1943. Sergeant Ingersoll was killed in action near Minturno. Buried at Carano, Italy Survived by father, stepmother, three sisters, Anna Warren Ingersoll Roberts (B A Vassar Coll. 1943), the wife of Brooke Roberts (B.A. Princeton 1939; M D. Umv Pennsylvania 1944), Miss Sally Wister Ingersoll, and Miss Gainor Baird Ingersoll, and two stepsisters, Miss Ann Clement Robinson and Miss Ellen Farr Robinson. Ralph Davis Sneath Sample, Class of 1945W. Born May n, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio. Died December 13, 1943, near Pensacola, Fla. Father, Emmet Walter Sample (Virginia Christian Coll. [now Lynchburg Coll ] 1908), formerly president E. W. Sample and Company, investment counselors, Cleveland; son of Lafayette and Rachel Sample.
