SCHOOL OF THE FINE ARTS JOLINE BUTLER SMITH BFA 1898 Born May 19, 1848 Died February 11, 1946, in New Haven, Conn Father, Sylvester Smith, a merchant in New Haven Mother, Charlotte (Butler) Smith Studied at Atelier of Gerome,1 Pans, France, attended Yale School of the Fine Arts 1869-70 (certificate 1870, awarded BFA 1898), assistant in decorative design Yale School of the Fine Arts 1902-06, for several years was associated with Tiffany Art Studio, New York City, painting figures on windows designed for new churches in New York City and elsewhere in the United States, among his works are the Davenport group and three south windows in Center Church, New Haven, and a memonal window to his parents in the First Methodist Church, New Haven, resided in Madison, Conn, for thirty years and engaged in landscape painting, member Paint and Clay Club of New Haven Married May 16, 1889, in New Haven, Caroline Marcia, daughter of Robert Augustus and Phoebe (Hull) Brown No children Mrs Smith died December 16, 1945 Death due to senility Ashes interred in Evergreen Cemetery, New Hav en Survived by no immediate relatives 217
