Mother, Katharine (Beekman) Hoppin; daughter of James W. and Abian Steele (Milledoler) Beekman. Yale relatives include: Augustus R. Street (B.A. 1812), Carnngton Hoppin (Class of 1832), and James M. Hoppin (B.A. 1840) (great- uncles); Frederick S. Hoppin (B.A. 1856) (uncle). Groton (Mass) School.
