Abstract: A monk seated in a high-backed carved chair on the left looks at a pretty young woman down on her right knee by his side. Her dress is that of the late 17th century. She gestures with her left hand while holding the right one to her breast. She appears to be aware of her charms, as well as the fact that they influence her confessor. The lady is tentatively identified as a Mrs. Russell
