Abstract: Lord Temple, in a robe tied with a belt labeled "secret [influence]" and a dark lantern in his hand, introduces William Pitt to the King who is seated on a long latrine bench, signed, "Treasury." Behind him on the wall hangs a portrait print with the face torn off, signed, "Lord Chatham." Pointing to the second opening in the bench, the King invites a stupefied Pitt to join him
