Abstract: "A man rides on a country road in profile to the left, facing a squall of wind and rain which beats the brim of his round hat over his face. He approaches a fork in the road with a signpost (left) showing the roads to 'Oxford' and '[L]ondon'. A bag at the back of his saddle shows that he is 'what is called on the road, a rider, a bag-man or bagster'."--British Museum online catalogue
