Abstract: A woman in long, white flowing gown and veil which cascades over her shoulders and arms, stands in a profile to the left, her right arm raised toward the kneeling figure of a young man in regimentals. The man looks at her through an eye-glass in his right hand. The image is a reference to M.G. Lewis's popular play, Castle Spectre in which Mrs. Powell played the title role; the admirer is evidently Prince Ernest
