Abstract: The journal records the trip by Fort Smith, the Arkansas, Gregg's road, Little River, the Canadian, Albuquerque, Rio Grande, Rio Membres, Chihuahua road, Tucson, the Gila, the Colorado, the desert, Warner's ranch, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Monterey, and San Francisco. Goulding notes preparations, country and wild life, Indian settlements, and events. Goulding copied John Hoyt's notes on the Spanish Trail. There are sketches, letters and notes for 1864-1865, family and hospital accounts.
Description: Accompanied by a printed broadside of the Knickerbocker Exploring Company's Constitution and list of members, and two clippings from the Fort Smith Hearald.
