Description: In Latin.
Script: copied by one hand in Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria. Headings and running headlines in red. 2-line flourished initials, protruding into the margin or intercolumn, alternately in red and blue with penwork in the contrasting colours, at the opening of the chapters. Historiated initials on square background and with long marginal extensions (foliate bar borders) at the opening of the Prologue and of the Collationes.
Binding: de luxe binding s. XIX by Thibaron (d. c. 1880): blind-tooled brown morocco over cardboard boards, both covers decorated with fillets and flowery ornaments.
Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Edward Arnold with the device "Be just and fear not" and the name of Andrew W. Arnold, The Grove, Dorking, Surrey. Sotheby sale, 6 May 1929, lot 80. Sotheby sale, 14 March 1949, lot 69. Sotheby sale, 10 Dec. 1969, lot 78 (the property of W. Lyon Wood??). Brian S. Cron (1913-2002), bought from Quaritch, 4 May 1971.
