Doyle describes the routes and his experiences from 1849 to 1851 at Long's Bar, Oregon Bar, Union Bar, in the Feather River Valley.  The third volume contains ten letters to his parents and brothers Manville, James, and Sam from 1849 to 1851</dc:description><dc:description>Doyle, son of Edward Doyle of Rushville, Illinois, served in the Mexican War as 2d Lt. in Dunlap's Company of Illinois Cavalry. He traveled to California with his brother James and a company of Rushville friends in 1849, returned home, and traveled a second time to California with his brother A. J.
