Ticket for the ninth day of the trial of Warren Hastings; coat of arms at center, with the motto "sub libertate quietem" beneath

Title etched within banner above coat of arms; remainder of title etched below coat of arms, with "Ninth day" etched at bottom of plate.
Date based on that of the trial, which began in February 1788.
With wax seal and contemporary inscription "Tuesday Feb. twenty sixth 1788, James Ely" in brown ink at bottom of sheet. Later pencil annotation on verso identifies the writing as that of James Yorke, Bishop of Ely.
Window mounted to 51 x 36 cm.
Mounted opposite page 364 (leaf numbered '183' in pencil) in volume 2 of an extra-illustrated copy of: Moore, T. Memoirs of the life of the Right Honourable Richard Brinsley Sheridan. - Provenance
- Formerly owned by R.B. Sheridan (the dramatist's grandson), who undertook the copious extra-illustration of the volumes. Later owned by Sheridan's descendant Lady Wavertree. Sotheby's, 25 May 1954 (Lady Wavertree sale), lot 266, to Maggs for W.S. Lewis.
