Imperfect; sheet trimmed within plate mark with loss of all text. Description based on impression in the British Museum, registration no.: Aa,9.22.
Sheet trimmed into an oval shape (23.8 x 19.4 cm), with ink wash added to fill in the blank spaces around the rectangular portrait; window mounted to 51 x 36 cm.
Mounted opposite page 174 (leaf numbered '212' in pencil) in volume 1 of an extra-illustrated copy of: Moore, T. Memoirs of the life of the Right Honourable Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
Title and statements of responsibility written in ink at bottom of mounting page, in a later hand: Mrs. Abington as 'Roxalana' in the "Sultan" / Sir J. Reynolds, pinx. ; J.K. Sherwin, sculp. - Provenance
- Formerly owned by R.B. Sheridan (the dramatist's grandson), who undertook the copious extra-illustration of the volumes. Later owned by Sheridan's descendant Lady Wavertree. Sotheby's, 25 May 1954 (Lady Wavertree sale), lot 266, to Maggs for W.S. Lewis.
