Abstract: A collection of 256 mostly British satirical prints and broadsides commenting on the scandalous relations between Queen Caroline and King George IV including those commenting on the "Queen Caroline Affair" of 1820, purportedly assembled by William Gladstone and mounted in chronological order in two albums. Many of the prints and broadsides are annotated apparently in W.E. Gladstone's hand, with the exact month and date of publication and the identities of the person being satirized. Later pencil annotations have been added to mounting sheet along with extracts from the description of the print from the Catalogue of prints and drawings in the British Museum, these later annotations probably added by the 20th-century owner of the volumes, Ernest R. Gee

Also laid in volume 1, one leaf (pages 39-40) of an unidentifed work that includes a table: List of names on the two engraved plates of autographs.

Date based on latest annotation in the album.
Bound in later 19th- or early 20th-century black morocco, boards and spine elaborately tooled in gilt.
Provenance: Sold by London's Dulau and Company to the New York City bookseller Ernest R. Gee in 1928. Earlier ownership by W.E. Gladstone is suggested by a manuscript note from Dulau formerly laid into the front the first volume (now in the object file), which states that "These came from the Gladstone Library at Court Hey, Broad Green. The manuscript notes written below the caricatures are in the handwriting of W.E. Gladstone." Purchased by The Lewis Walpole Library from William Reese Company, February 2024.
