- Abstract
-
A blindfolded and disoriented John Bull figure, arms outstretched in an attempt to feel his surroundings, is shown in a room full of unsavory characters (politicians among them) who pick his pockets or otherwise scheme to take advantage of him. The text in the speech bubble above him begins: Hollo! The deuce take ye all, are ye picking my pockets - not content with making a fool and laughingstock of me for your amusement ...

Title from text below image.
Initials of Charles Jameson Grant engraved in lower left portion of design.
Likely part of a new series of The political drama that was begun in 1841. See pages 12-13 in: C.J. Grant's political drama: a radical satirist rediscovered. London : University College, c1998.
Description based on an imperfect impression; sheet trimmed with probable loss of series title and numbering from top edge.
Letterpress text below image: Our artist has hit off the dilemma in which poor John Bull is placed every year. First he is thrown from Tory to Whig, and then from Whig to Tory; but the two factions cease their game of shuttlecock when the time for the supplies is at hand; then the old game of blindman's buff, is, as above proceeded with, and "Honest John" has again to cast his skin of golden scales, to the tune of £52,000,000.
