- Abstract
-
A man hangs from a windowsill on the outside of a building, escaping the flames from a fire seen in the upper left. He is disheveled and only half-dressed: his jacket is draped over his shoulder, his suspenders dangle between his legs, his wig is on backwards, and his hat is falling to the ground. A crowd of people and firefighters(?) are seen in the background on the left; birds fly above them, with two entering a birdhouse made from a bottle on the side of the building. An illustration to a work intended as a mild satire on Lord Brougham and his educational schemes
