Published dispatches distributed by the Associated Press about the journey are interleaved between the photographic prints on separate mounts, The party included Chester A. Arthur, President of the United States; Robert T. Lincoln, Secretary of War; Philip H. Sheridan, Lieutenant General; George G. Vest, United States Senator; Daniel G. Rollins, Surrogate of New York County, New York; Anson Stager, Brigadier General, United States Volunteers; John Schuyler Crosby, Governor of Montana; Michael V. Sheridan, Lieutenant Colonel and Military Secretary; James F. Gregory, Lieutenant Colonel and Aide-de-Camp; William P.
