From his right pocket, a paper entitled "Capture of the French King." In the foreground left, a pile of medals and ribbons (symbols of royal orders) is labeled "Sacred to the National Assembly."

Abstract:
"John Bull, a fat 'cit', is seated beside a writing-table (right) holding up a large book. On the left hand page is inscribed 'Vote of Thanks respecting the Expedition to Copenhagen'; John's pen rests on the last word, but he turns in horror to gaze at the ghosts of (left to right) Fox, Pitt, and Burke. These wear shrouds and stand on clouds; all point a menacing forefinger. Fox says: "Erase those lines from your Journal"; Pitt and Burke say "Erase". Burke wears spectacles and a Jesuit's biretta (cf. British Museum Satires No. 6026), and holds a large book inscribed 'Sublime & Beautiful' [cf., e.g., British Museum Satires No. 6361]. John wears glasses, his hair rises on his head, pushing up his ill-fitting wig. He says: "Why dont you come then and transact the business yourselves? - it is impossible I can please every body. - it is come to such a pitch now that I have no peace either with the living or the dead!!!""--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"The interior of a barber's shop. Fox, with a bald head, stands looking towards the barber (left), who holds up a plain wig with a single curl at the back, saying: "No fit you Zir, perhaps you got de Paine in you Head, make you tink so, dis Vigg vill fit any Loyal subject give but an Eye to it sir as I hold it -" Behind him, looking through the door and on the extreme right, is Burke wearing a neat wig. Fox is out at elbows and wears an apron. A dog tugs at his shoe. Above the barber's head is a shelf for wig-boxes inscribed 'By the King's Patent'. Wigs and tresses of hair hang in a curved shop-window behind Fox with inscriptions (reversed) in three panes: 'Essence of Lemon', 'A Separate appartment to dress in', 'Violet Soap'. Powys looks up at him with an angry expression; he holds in his hand a thick bundle of papers inscribed 'Memda of Important Observations Obvious Objections Perpetual Motions Doubts Facts Surmises Queries &ca &ca'. On the lash of Erskine's whip is a judge's wig inscribed 'Defence of Lord Clive'; its handle is decorated with bells. Burke's head and right arm project into the upper right corner of the design; he holds leading-strings attached to Erskine's shoulders. Below him and immediately behind Erskine are the head and shoulders of Francis, who leans forward, clapping his hands. Above Hastings a rectangular block inscribed 'Impeachment' hangs by a thread. Abstract:
"Burke sleeps in a half-reclining position, his arms folded, legs extended, spectacles pushed up on his forehead. On a pedestal above his head (right) is a bust inscribed 'Mahomet', a fierce-looking, mustachioed man. A hanging lamp burns before it. On the right is Burke's reverie or dream: A Turk sits cross-legged on a divan holding out his arms eagerly to a young girl who is being brought to him by his mother, an elderly woman, who says, grinning, "I have procured another Lamb for my Lord"; the girl turns away with a gesture of distress. Above the Turk's head is an open book inscribed 'Koran'. Beside Burke in the foreground (right) is propped an open book inscribed: '... I have observed that the greatest Degree of Respect is paid to Women of Quality in the East and that the strongest Instances of Maternal Affection & filial Duty prevail there. Note Begum ...
